DRAIN FIELD

A properly installed drain field make a big difference than not properly installed. There is serious engineering with types of materials and a special kind of soil to pass the local county and or city inspection. If the soil type is not right, the effluent will not properly perk through the soil as it is drawn by gravity. In turn the drain field will get saturated and drain lines and septic tank will fill up and sewage will back up into the house as toilets will not flush properly. This is naturally science at work. The size of septic tank and drain field is based on the square footage of the home. 

Now depending on the lot and how the home sits depends on where the septic tank will sit to pass inspection. There are some homes that the best place is the front yard which does not look good. Many times the septic company has to order dirt to make a drain field due to the fact the dirt on the property will not pass the test for a drain field. This is where the hump in the yard is formed.

From the septic tank the drain lines must go up about 12 inches then down the drain field.  Therefore a sub-pump is needed to inside the septic tank to pump out of the septic tank into the drain field once the septic tank reaches a certain level. There is an alarm installed on top of the ground located near the septic tank. This alarm is activated once a certain level is reached inside the tank if there is a problem to pump effluent out of septic tank.  

SEPTIC TANK

The septic tank makes it's own bacteria and breaks down solids to properly be released into the soil to perk into the drain field. They make a product called Rid X that is a bacteria itself you can pour into the toilet, I have never had to use it. The septic tank is made of concrete with a circled top that can be removed to pump out septic tank if needed. Septic tanks are generally in rural areas where there is no public sewer. Only things need to go down in the toilets are bio-degradable items. In the sink only dish water, any oil or grease will destroy the drain field will be destroyed.
